Off the Shelf...

A Celebration of Books
To Benefit the libraries of washington and greene county's regional one-card network

September 22, 2010, 6:00 pm.
at Bella Sera
Canonsburg, PA

Our third annual benefit for our Washington and Greene County libraries, Off the Shelf, is an evening of good food and good fun centered around our table decorating contest. This year's subject for the contest is your favorite literary HERO. Choose your HERO. Living or dead. Fictional or real. Human or otherwise. What HERO makes your heart race with his or her accomplishments? What character from a book possesses those qualities and attributes that you admire in a HERO? What book had a HERO that had such a memorable effect on you that you remember him or her vividly years later? Or what HERO in history do you feel was instrumental in shaping our country or the world? Your options are as broad as the spectrum of books that fill the shelves of your local library.

So choose your HERO and decorate your table according to a book about that HERO. Simple as that. Then let the fun begin!

We are excited to have Dave Crawley as our speaker for the evening. Known for his rhyming stories on KDA TV and his visions of KD Country, he is also an author, celebrity chairman of walkathons for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Alzheimer's Association and a published poet with poems included in nine anthologies.

The evening's activities will include:

  • Judging of the decorated tables with awards given by impartial judges
  • A Chinese auction
  • A live auction by acutioneer Tripp Kline
  • A delicious dinner
  • Remarks by Dave Crawley of KDKA TV
  • A book signing by Dave Crawley
  • A chance to meet new friends and have loads of fun
