Peacock Tales
Volume 18, Number 3 · July 2008Off the Shelf . . . A Celebration of Books
New initiative supports Washington's Citizens Library and Washington District Library System
Peacock Keller has always been a civic-minded law firm . . . one that is conscious of the needs of the communities it serves. This year, we are taking on a new endeavor to try to help Washington's Citizens Library and the Washington District Library system which consists of libraries in Washington and Greene Counties.
The First Annual OFF THE SHELF . . . A CELEBRATION OF BOOKS will be a unique fundraising dinner with a literary theme, with the proceeds benefitting these libraries. The dinner will be held at Bella Sera, located on Morganza Road in Canonsburg, on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Gene Collier, a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sports columnist, will be our speaker. This year's focus will be sports-related books.
We would like our friends and colleagues to pull that sports-focused book OFF THE SHELF, dust it off, purchase a table of ten and decorate the table according to a scene, character, or theme of the book. Part of the entertainment for the evening, along with listening to Mr. Collier, will be impartial judging of the tables. A trophy will be presented to the table that best depicts the essence of its chosen book.
We think this benefit can help the libraries in these times of rising expenses and diminished funding. Libraries open their doors to the public, and as noted recently by Melinda Tanner, district consultant of the Washington District Library system, in the online Washington District Libraries newsletter, they also "provide the highest level of service to all library users through appropriate and usefully organized resources; equitable service policies; equitable access; and accurate, unbiased and courteous responses to all requests."
The newsletter further states, "People do not give unless they are asked. People give to people. People want their money to make a difference." Okay. We're asking.
Help us to make our benefit a success. Please get in touch with your Peacock Keller attorney or call Carol Andrews, our Marketing Director, for more details and to register for this event for the fun of it. It will help the people of Washing- ton and Greene Counties. The libraries make a difference every single day.
