Peacock Tales
Volume 19, Number 3 · July 2009The Year Peacock Keller Opened its Doors
Much has changed since Peacock Keller opened its doors in 1925. There were about 115,829,000 Americans (compared to more than 304,000,000 today). The average annual wage in America in 1925 was about $1,250, a house cost about $7,750, and a new Ford touring car was $290. If you wanted the deluxe Chevrolet Superior K Series, it was $525. Federal spending was $2.92 billion, unemployment was about three percent, a first-class stamp was two cents, and the Dow hit a high for that year of 156.66.
The year 1925 marked the founding of Chrysler Corporation, the publication of The Great Gatsby and the launching of The New Yorker magazine. Sirloin steak was 46 cents a pound, a dozen eggs cost 47 cents, milk was 14 cents a quart, and you could buy five pounds of sugar for 35 cents. Gasoline was 19 cents a gallon and the first motor hotel (later dubbed a motel) opened in California, charging $1.25 a night.
What has not changed is Peacock Keller's committment to providing a full range of legal services, working diligently and honestly on behalf of every client, and making quality legal services affordable.
