Peacock Tales
Volume 19, Number 3 · July 2009Mysteries and Merriment

The second annual Off the Shelf . . . A Celebration of Books will be held on September 23, 2009 at Bella Sera in Canonsburg. This event is sponsored annually by Peacock Keller to benefit the Washington District libraries which includes all of the 16 libraries in Washington and Greene Counties.
Off the Shelf is a unique evening focused on books. This year the theme is mystery books. Each table purchased is to be decorated according to the theme or scene or characters from a mystery book. The tables will be judged and awards given for creativity and originality. There will also be auction items, a delicious dinner and, for the first time, a live auction.
Our speaker, Kathryn Miller Haines, is the author of three mystery novels, The War Against Miss Winter (2007), The Winter of her Discontent (2008) and Winter in June (2009), and is currently working on the fourth and final book in her Rosie Winter series. Rosie Winter is a starry-eyed, struggling starlet-to-be, plucky patriot and reluctant part-time detective who lives in New York in the 1940s. In addition to writing mysteries, Kathryn Miller Haines is an actor and award-winning playwright. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and received her BA in English and Theatre from Trinity University in San Antonio and her MFA in English from the University of Pittsburgh. She's a member of the Mary Roberts Rinehart Chapter of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America. She lives in Western Pennsylvania with her husband, Garrett, and their three dogs.

The libraries need support and this is a fun way for each of us to help. Off the Shelf . . . A Celebration of Books is another way Peacock Keller is actively supporting the institutions in this community that make life better for all of us. We hope to see you there.
