The Gift of Music: Peacock Keller Hosts Fifth Annual Off The Shelf

Peacock Keller hosted its Fifth Annual Off The Shelf...A Celebration of Books on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, attracting 300 guests to the Hilton Garden Inn, Southpointe.

When we began presenting this event, little did we know how we as a law firm would benefit. Peacock Keller wanted to help the Washington District Libraries to reach a technology goal of establishing a one-card regional network throughout their District which now includes Washington, Greene and Fayette Counties. We are working toward that goal having raised over $130,000 thus far.

This year we invited people to stretch their imagination with a Music theme and we were not disappointed. Attendees featured books on some of music's greatest legends, such as Johnny Cash and The Beatles; musicals, such as The Little Mermaid and The Music Man; and even nursery rhymes, such as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Our award winners were:

  • First Place Award (Pulitzer Prize) - Washington County Community Foundation, whose table theme was Don't Just Applaud, Send Money: The Most Successful Strategies for Funding & Marketing the Arts.
  • Second Place Award (Best Seller) - Flenniken Public Library, whose book was Phantom of the Opera; which also took the "People's Choice Award."
  • Third Place Award (Sleeper) - The Graham/Amrhein table who chose Cash.

Honorable Mention awards were given to First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Greene County for their table Grease and the Friends of Citizens Library for their table Satchmo: The Genius of Louis Armstrong.

Along with the amazing creativity of our participants, guests enjoyed a great dinner, the music of The Dan Baker Group, auction items and an entertaining presentation from Anthony DeCurtis, contributing editor at Rolling Stone Magazine.

Peacock Keller would like to thank everyone that participated-in and attended Off The Shelf. We hope that you'll be able to join us again next year for our theme of Travel. For more information, please contact us at 724-222-4520.

We would like to give a special thank you to USI Affinity for their donation to Off The Shelf . . . A Celebration of Books which was inadvertently omitted from the evening's program. They are an annual participant and we appreciate their participation, along with all of our other sponsors.
