Peacock Keller Celebrates Off The Shelf

Peacock Keller hosted its Seventh Annual Off The Shelf…A Celebration of Books on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, attracting 250 guests to the Hilton Garden Inn, Southpointe.

We began this event as a way to help the Washington District Libraries to reach a technology goal of establishing a one-card regional network throughout their District which now includes Washington, Greene and Fayette Counties. Funds raised at Off The Shelf provided the monetary match for a successful $250,000 Washington County Local Share Grant received in 2012. The grant enabled the remaining 12 Washington County libraries to join the WAGGIN consortium.

The money from this year’s Off The Shelf will allow the libraries’ consortium to pay for future maintenance and software upgrades to keep the network running smoothly.

This year we invited people to stretch their imagination with a “Food” theme and we were not disappointed. Attendees featured books such as Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

Our award winners were:

  • First Place Award (Pulitzer Prize) - Washington & Jefferson College, whose book was Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation.
  • Second Place Award (Best Seller) - Flenniken Public Library, whose book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
  • Third Place Award (Sleeper) - South Hills Auto, whose book was A Treasury of Great Recipes.
  • People’s Choice Award went to Bowlby Library for their table Ratatouille.

Along with the amazing creativity of our participants, guests enjoyed a great dinner, the music of The Dan Baker Group, auction items and an entertaining presentation from Robin Miller, TV personality, food writer and nutritionist.

Peacock Keller would like to thank everyone who participated in and attended Off The Shelf.
