Medicaid Figures for 2012

The Community Spouse Resource allowance, i.e. the amount of assets that a non-institutional spouse may retain in addition to the married couple’s residence and the car, is now a minimum of $22,728.00, and a maximum of $113,640.00.

The maximum monthly maintenance needs allowance, i.e. the amount of joint monthly income a non-institutional spouse may keep, remains at $1,838.75 a month for the forty-eight contiguous states until July1, 2012.  After July there will be a readjustment to reflect any increase in the Consumer Price Index.

Nursing Home Costs for 2012

A recent survey reported that the average cost of a private nursing home room is now $87,235.00 a year, or $239.00 a day, and the average cost of a semi-private room is $78,110.00 a year, or $214.00 a day.  The same survey reported that the average cost of assisted living facilities has risen to $41,724.00 a year or $3,477.00 a month.
