Off the Shelf: A Celebration of Books

Our little green martian would like to invite you to join us on September 21, 2011 for our 4th Annual Off The Shelf . . . A Celebration of Books. Peacock Keller sponsors this event each year to help raise funds for the libraries in the Washington District which includes all of the libraries in Washington, Greene and Fayette Counties. With funding cut on every level, these 20 libraries need our help more than ever this year.

As our little green man suggests, the theme for Off The Shelf this year is Space. The tables will be decorated with a Space theme and our speaker is Dr. Jay Apt, a former NASA astronaut and Space photographer, who has spent more than 35 days in Space on four Space shuttle missions and has performed two Space walks (one an emergency rescue of a satellite). He has been to the Russian Space station Mir and is the recipient of NASA’s highest medal. Dr. Apt is a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business and the Department of Engineering and Public Policy

Our Off The Shelf event is an evening of good food and fun centered around our dinner-table decorating contest. Our table-buying guests choose their favorite book about Space and decorate their table according to a scene, character or premise of their book. The tables are judged during the evening on creativity.

This year the event will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe, Canonsburg PA. We’d love to see you take up a little Space at one of our tables and help us to help our libraries. For more information, please call Carol Andrews at 724-222- 4520 or e-mail to
